Eating Local at ABC Kitchen

We rarely eat out, but we ate out well this past weekend!

On Saturday night, we had dinner with my Aunt Jean, Uncle Wendell, and cousin Theresa at The Farm on Adderly in Brooklyn. Although we’ve been there before, this is our first time having dinner there, and we were not disappointed. They highlight local ingredients, small farms, and sustainability.

The meal’s highlights were:

  • Escarole salad (celery root, candied olives, lemon, olive oil, Parmesan)
  • Bibb salad (pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, goat cheese fritters)
  • Apple tempura (savoy cabbage, pork broth)
  • Brussel sprouts (w/Parmesan)
  • Butternut squash tart (goat cheese & caramelized onion)

On Sunday, Lindsay and I went out for our annual Christmas celebration dinner. In lieu of going over the top on gifts for one another, we just go out to a really nice dinner together at any restaurant of our choosing. We outdid ourselves this year with a fabulous meal at ABC Kitchen. Although they don’t include it on their website, they list all of their food suppliers, and it reads like a list of our favorite farmers from the Union Square greenmarket (which, by the way, is only one block from the restaurant). It was like having a professional chef prepare a delicious meal using the ingredients that we would have at home!

Here was what we had (everything was really over-the-top phenomenal):

  • Roasted kabocha squash toast (with fresh ricotta and apple cider vinegar)
  • Fried organic chicken (with with collard greens, mashed potatoes, and spicy gravy)
  • Braised lamb shank (with parsley root (parsnip) puree, and horseradish gremolata)
  • Ice cream sundae (with salted caramel ice cream, candied peanuts and popcorn)

We highly recommend!
