On Saturday night, we had dinner with my Aunt Jean, Uncle Wendell, and cousin Theresa at The Farm on Adderly in Brooklyn. Although we’ve been there before, this is our first time having dinner there, and we were not disappointed. They highlight local ingredients, small farms, and sustainability.

Because both Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Saturdays this year, today was the last major Saturday greenmarket at Union Square until the springtime. Every conversation between customer and vendor consisted of some variation of “when are you back?” or “how long will you be gone?” Usually these questions are about the produce. Today, they were about the farmers themselves.

Years ago, when I first started visiting the Holiday Market, it was just so much junk from China.
